Bates Nut Farm

Bates, as we call it in my family, is a cute little farm zoo located in a country area of San Diego known as Valley Center. My parents used to take us when we were little to picnic, feed corn to the animals and then get a treat in the country store like honey sticks or coconut covered apricot rolls. The farm store has expanded a bit since I was a kid, but the whole place still has a nostalgic charm for me.  In the fall there is also a great pumpkin patch and Halloween carnival. I painted a plaster mermaid there that I still have tucked away in a shoe box.
