Mochi Making

We went over to cousin Gordy's home in Carlsbad for some pre-New Year's mochi making! This is a Japanese tradition that was once done with giant wooden mallets used to pound the rice, but now they have these fancy mochi makers that do it all for you! The only labor left is folding the soft dough into little mounds. It was cool seeing relatives that we don't get to hang out with very often. I learned how to play Pounce which I found is an old Mori favorite all the way back to when my dad was growing up. It was fun to introduce John to these things and I hope to one day be able to pass them onto our children.
