5th Water Hot Springs

I've mentioned this before, but John and I have kind of made a tradition of doing something outdoors for our wedding anniversary each year. It all started when, for our first anniversary, John took me on a grueling 8+ hour hike up Bear Trap Fork after which we were practically passing out at dinner from exhaustion.  We haven't done something quite as extreme since then, but we started liking the idea of taking advantage of the summer time to celebrate.

This year, in addition to seeing Beasts of the Southern Wild and dining at The New Yorker, which, by the way is probably one of the most overrated restaurants in Salt Lake, we hiked up Spanish Fork Canyon to 5th Water Springs.  This is one of those activities, along with the Mona Rope Swing, floating down the Provo River, etc., that are typical BYU adventure rituals. When we were first engaged we did the same hike with Jed Henry.  It was much more hardcore back then because the bridge to the path was closed and the only way to get to the trail was to cross a flooded, raging river via branches.  Think fording the river in Oregon Trail.  Sometimes the oxen just sink right into those pixels . . .  Now, there's a whole parking lot dedicated to the trail.  Lame! No, it was actually much better, I must just have some pride in the fact that we took the dangerous way once.

The springs were lovely, but probably a little too warm for 90 degree weather in the middle of summer. Still, it was so relaxing that I felt I was going to fall asleep on the hike back.

@Tanei you were definitely there in thought, but not in person. It was before you guys were engaged, and Jed was talking about how much he liked you the whole time!
