Tintypes, Deguerrotyptes, Etc.

This week we watched the movie Cold Mountain with Clearplay. We got it mostly because I like Natalie Portman. Jude Law isn't bad either, but man, his hair line is suffering! Anyway, they used tintype photographs (more accurately ferrotypes or ambrotypes) in the film. I love the simplicity and beauty of black and white photography especially those produced through earlier methods.

Here is a lovely example of a modern Tintype by Angela Kohler. It makes me want to be back in a dark room and for the time to take some more classes.

Perhaps a more relevant photography movie that we have watched recently is Everlasting Moments. It's a little depressing, but I love feeling the anticipation and excitement of watching a picture develop before your eyes. If you have netflix, it's free to view right now.

The next photo movie in our queue is the documentary Annie Leibovitz: Life Through a Lens.
