Drive to Spain & Sevilla

From Evora we drove four hours to Sevilla. The drive provided great scenery of Portugal's countryside and the Andalusian plain. Lots of ibis, cork tree groves, and tree lined roads flanked by golden fields.

We were told by several people, including people who lived in Portugal, that Sevilla was not the most interesting place to visit. Alternative suggestions were Valencia, Madrid, and Bacelona, but since Sevilla was the closest major Spanish city to the border we stuck to our plan. It was hot and humid and looked like Los Angeles when driving in. Not that LA is a terrible place, but it just didn't seem very different to me on the outset.

During the day we did some site seeing at the Plaza de Espana and the Park of Maria Louisa, but hardly anyone else was really out and about. They were smart and stayed in air conditioned rooms. The heat did provide me an opportunity to watch an episode of the Saddle Club on Disney since it was the only channel in English. Some things we learned: 1) Churros here don't have cinnamon and sugar on them 2) Empanadas here are breaded, fried pieces of meat, not meat in a flaky pastry 3) Don't get your paella somewhere cheap 4) There is apparently an ab cream for men that will tone your stomach like a Spanish soccer player with nightly applications.

The best parts of Sevilla were that I new more of the language than John, the celebrations on the streets after Spain won their game against Portugal, and the goat cheese salad. John says that salad made the whole drive to Spain worth it. Him and his love of cheese.

I wish you could've gone somewhere on the Andalusian coast- so gorgeous! I like the picture of you with the girasols and I'm glad John enjoyed that salad. We'll have to make you some paella sometime. :) PS did you buy me that cream?!

Emily, I forgot! Sorry! What was it again? We totally should have consulted with you and Tyrone before heading to Spain. I guess Spain is its own vacation in itself. We'll just have to go back sometime :)

Your pictures are amazing - what a great trip! My brother served his mission in Seville...too bad you couldn't climb Gibraltar (or maybe it's good, I hear the monkeys bite!)
